The Kansas Golf Foundation will be inducting Woody Austin, Matt Gogel and Gary Woodland into the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame on October 7, 2024 at the Marriott in Overland Park.
Welcoming their family, friends, and supporters, the event will honor their achievements in golf and individual dedication to growing the game.
The Kansas Golf Hall of Fame was founded in 1991 to honor men and women who have made outstanding contributions to golf in Kansas. Past inductees include KS golf greats like Tom Watson, Wally Beets, Frank Kirk, Ross Randall, Marge Page, and Jim Colbert. Categories of Hall of Fame members are: Amateur Player, Professional Player, Club Professional, Golf Course Superintendent, Coach, and Contributor to the Game.
Woody, Matt, and Garywill be honored under the Professional Player.
Woody Austin, Derby, KS: Austin will enter the Hall of Fame in the category of Professional Player. He played for the University of Miami (FL). He turned pro in 1995 and was the Rookie of the Year, then in 2015, joined the PGA Champions Tour. His professional career is punctuated with four PGA TOUR and four PGA Champions Tour wins. Austin has long been revered for his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. His strategic prowess and unwavering resolve on the course have earned him admiration from peers and fans alike. Austin’s legacy as a consummate professional and a true ambassador of the game will endure for generations to come.
Matt Gogel, Mission Hills, KS: Gogel will enter the Hall of Fame in the category of Professional Player. He played for the University of Kansas and turned pro in 1994. Early in his career, he played on the Nike Tour (now the Korn Ferry Tour) and was the first player in the tour’s history to win in four consecutive years. In 2000, he joined the PGA TOUR, had one win, and retired in 2006. In 2007, Gogel joined the Golf Channel as an on-course reporter for the PGA TOUR coverage. Deciding to come out of retirement in 2021, Gogel joined the PGA Champions Tour. His commitment to excellence and unwavering passion for the game has left its mark on the sport, inspiring countless individuals to pursue their dreams on the fairways.
Gary Woodland, Lawrence, KS: Woodland will enter the Hall of Fame in the category of Professional Player. During his amateur career, he was a two-time Kansas Amateur champion, won five other amateur events, and played for the University of Kansas. His professional career began in 2009, and he currently has four PGA TOUR wins, including the 2019 U.S. Open Championship, as well as being part of the 2019 Presidents Cup team. His unwavering determination, unparalleled skill, and sportsmanship have solidified his place among the legends of the game. Woodland’s achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring golfers and enthusiasts alike, showcasing the power of perseverance and passion.
